One injured after balcony collapses in a chawl in Thane


Thane, June 27: A 33-year-old man was injured after a balcony in a chawl fell on him in Thane city on Tuesday. An official of the municipal body gave this information. Yasin Tadvi, head of the Regional Disaster Management Cell, said that the incident took place around 3 pm in a chawl in the Samta Nagar area.

Local fire department personnel and disaster management team were pressed into the rescue operation.

Tadvi said that in the wake of the incident, the Thane Municipal Corporation decided to evict 42 families living in the 25-year-old buildings. The residents would be shifted to nearby schools and community halls, he said.
