A private complaint in the court against the Lt. Governor who called Gandhi's barrister title fake
On March 23, 2023, releasing a book on socialist leader Dr. Lohia, at a private university, ITM University, Gwalior His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Manoj Sinha, made a sensational allegation that the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi’s title of Barrister from London was fake. The disputed statement of the Lieutenant Governor was not accidental, he had brought a written speech along with him, in support of his allegation he had also quoted a part of a book. Perhaps, to divert attention from Modiji's well-known degree controversy, Bapu's law degree was deliberately described as questionable as part of a well-thought-out strategy.
The city of Gwalior was not chosen randomly to insult Bapu. Gwalior already has the indelible stigma of providing pistols to Gandhi's killer. The drama of the construction of the Godse temple also takes place here every year. These people themselves call the police and the media, and after a two-hour photo session, they all go about their business.
Bapu's degree was in headlines for months after a person holding a constitutional post as Lt. Governor called it questionable, but unfortunately, there was no rebuttal from the Prime Minister, the top BJP leadership, and His Majesty himself. The voice of disagreement was also not heard from the socialist leader Ram Shekar Singh, the organizer of the program. Then Dr. Rakesh Pathak, a Gandhian journalist, sent a legal notice to the Lt. Governor on the very next day of the program i.e. March 24, 2023, within the stipulated time period. An unconditional apology was demanded for the offence. A copy of the notice was also sent to His Excellency the President. When there was no response from the Lt. Governor within the given time limit, Dr. Pathak, through his lawyers, submitted a private complaint against the Lt. Governor in the competent court of Gwalior. The Hon'ble Court has fixed the date of 21st June 2023 for the submission of arguments on the point of admissibility.
Dr. Pathak's courage and ideological commitment deserve a
salute.
